Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in the dental office by restoring, and maintaining your oral health. Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.
Cleaning
A general cleaning is a procedure is recommended every six
months. Even though visiting the dentist twice a year may seem like a
lot, two short visits a year will potentially prevent a life time of
dental problems and worry.
Diagnostics
At your cleaning, your hygienist will carefully examine your teeth,
gums and palate, looking for a presence of disease or periodontal
disease.
Intraoral Camera
This little video camera allows views of your teeth and
gums like never before--magnified up to 40 times on a TV monitor. It
helps us correctly diagnose problems better, earlier, and more
accurately. It allows you to see and better understand what is going on
with your oral health.
Dental X-Rays
Dental x-rays or radiographs allow the dentist to see
things about your oral health that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
These items include cysts (sacks of fluid that form on the roots of
teeth), cancerous and non-cancerous tumors, invisible decay that occurs
between teeth, and the location of teeth that haven't grown all the way
in.
